The Sentinel FYI website provides a resource about Alphabetic Ciphers. This shows that letters can be substituted with numbers (and vice-versa). An interesting way to encrypt a message would then be to just add or subtract a number to a letter and depict the new value as a number.

Have you tried writing down the numbers for each letter in the decrypted and encrypted words? Can you see a pattern?
