Identify Kongamato’s Habitat

You only need to provide the names of the two features. The order is not important.
For example, if the two features are ABC Marsh and XYZ Mountain, then you can use either of:
abcxyz
xyzabc

Hints

Hint 1
You should try to figure out where you need to start looking for the Kongamato.
Hint 2

Does the Cryptid Observer newsletter from S.O.U.P. contain any relevant information?

Hint 3

The article on page 2 of the Cryptid Observer provides some information about the Kongamato’s habitat.

Hint 4

Do you have any items that might show the landscape around you?

Hint 5

There are land features on the maps in the pamphlets.

Hint 6
The Cryptid Observer suggests that the most likely habitat is a marshy environment, in the vicinity of mountains, but not close to human settlements.
Hint 7

Can you find a marsh which is close to aย mountain, but far from humans?

Hint 8

Make sure there are no human settlements near the mountain and marsh you find.

Hint 9
The rangers told you to pay attention to the complete map. Did you read all the names on all three maps carefully?
Hint 10
There are some landmarks that appear on more than one map.
Hint 11
Have you tried aligning/overlaying the maps where the common landmarks appear across the maps?
Hint 12
If you still cannot identify a location, check the pamphlets to see if they also mention if a human structure is uninhabited.
Solution
Show Explanation

Tarangire Marsh is next to a mountain (Nainokanoka Crater) but also itโ€™s close to human settlement (Sutepake Tribe) – so itโ€™s not the solution.

Magatini Marsh is close to Mount Amboseli, but itโ€™s again close to a Maasai village.

The only marsh that you cannot exclude is the Somagedi Marsh, but on its map you cannot see any mountains nearby. But the rangers did tell you to look a the complete map. If you look carefully at the maps, there are common landmarks between them:

  • The Baobab Forest appears on the map in the Camp Sinyati and Ngorongoro Luxury Lodge pamphlets.
  • The Taleaga Tribe Village appears on the map in the Camp Sinyati and The Samoyi Lodge pamphlets.
  • The Dominic Ranger Station appears on the map in the The Samoyi Lodge and Camp Sinyati pamphlets.

If you align the maps such that these common landmarks are either overplayed or right next to each other then you will see that Somagedi Marsh and Ngorongoro Mountain are close to each other. There is Dominic Ranger Station nearby but the pamphlet tells you that it is abandoned.

This means that Somagedi Marsh and Ngorongoro Mountain are the two land features that make up the Kongamato’s habitat.
