Hints

Hint 1
You need to find a location in Quito that you need to go to.

The letter from Wolf, on the back of the photocopy, says “follow the birds, one-by-one as they appear.”

You have just found some notes from Wolf that tell of his voyage to Galรกpagos Islands. Does that help you identify a bird that might help guide you?

Hint 2
Wolf’s notes mention the Blue Footed Boobie bird twice (once on 17 April 1875 and again on 18 April 1875). The first bird you used was a Blue Footed Booby, discounting that, the most likely bird to follow is still the Blue Footed Boobie.

You also got a third painting of this bird.

Hint 3
Did you notice that the front of each painting has some numbers?

ย

Hint 4
In his notes, Wolf says, “The dates when I traveled may help navigate future journeys, but may the letters within these notesย help guide other curious minds”.

He seems to be hinting at something here.

Hint 5
The numbers look to be like dates followed by two numbers (separated by hyphens).

ย

Hint 6
Have you seen the dates that appear on the paintings elsewhere?

ย

Hint 7
The dates on the Blue Footed Booby looking upwards are 16.04 (16 April), 18.04 (18 April), 17.04 (17 April) and 12.04 (12 April). All these dates also appear in Wolf’s notes.

Do the dates from the other paintings also appear in his notes?

Hint 8
Maybe the two numbers after the date, separated by hyphen, refer to a specific letter in his notes?

Hint 9
16.04-1-4 could be 4th letter of 1st line from note on 16 April = D

Can following this approach reveal a message? But how can you pick the order of letters?

Hint 10
Did you notice that Wolf describes the mating dance of the Blue Footed Booby?

Hint 11
The mating dance involves three steps, in this order:

  • Lifted foot
  • Looking down
  • Point head up

Have you seen these actions anywhere?

Hint 12
The three mating dance steps are the same as the paintings you have. This should help with the order.

Show Explanation

The letter from Wolf, on the back of the photocopy, says “follow the birds, one-by-one as they appear.”ย You have just found some notes from Wolf that tell of his voyage to Galรกpagos Islands. Within these notes, the first two bird encounters he has are with the Blue Footed Booby. You even received a new painting of the Blue Footed Booby. Since you have already worked with this bird once, but Wolf talks about them twice in his notes, you must use these birds one more time.

The paintings of the birds have some numbers on them. The beginnings of the numbers look like datesย followed by two numbers (separated by hyphens). The dates on the Blue Footed Booby looking upwards are 16.04 (16 April), 18.04 (18 April), 17.04 (17 April) and 12.04 (12 April). All these dates also appear in Wolf’s notes. The dates on the other paintings also appear in Wolf’s notes.

The two numbers after the date, separated by hyphen, refer to a specific letter in his notes. For example, 16.04-1-4 is the 4th letter of 1st line from note on 16 April = D.ย The same can be done for all the dates and numbers. But you still need to find the order in which the letters should be read to reveal a message.

The second time Wolf mentions these birds, he tells you about the mating dance, which has three major steps:

  • Lifted foot
  • Looking down
  • Point head up

These actions are the same as the paintings you find. Arranging them in this order, you get:

  • Lifted footย painting = 12.04-1-26, 12.04-5-2, 16.04-4-11, 18.04-5-2ย = TUIT
  • Looking down painting =ย 17.04-3-3,ย 18.04-2-3,ย 12.04-3-13 ,ย 16.04-3-4ย = OACA
  • Point head up painting =ย 16.04-1-4,ย 18.04-10-3,ย 17.04-5-38,ย 12.04-5-11 = DEMY

Assembling this, you get TUITOACADEMY
