Personal Logs

This is an interesting turn of events. The Sentinel didn’t just run into snags, but the crew suspected that there was sabotage! This could even explain why the crew had to abandon the submarine. Maybe the last incident was serious enough that they decided it was best to flee! Besides finding the crew, identifying the culprit is now part of the job. Good thing that the crew gave you a head-start with finding some traits of the culprit.

You put all those thoughts out of your mind for now. These traits need to be found so you can help identify the culprit, but more importantly figure out the 4-digit code to get into Commander Riker’s safe. Maybe that will even tell you where the crew went.

Then you remember, best not to forget that Ensign Laren has one more log entry as well!

Hints for Anthony Audet

Anthony Audet

Have you found any items that belong to Anthony? Perhaps the items you found in the control room had names on them.

There is a Sonar Technician Sheet with Anthony’s name on it.

Those circles look like someone was trying to practice something to do with sonar targets. But that is a lot of targets, and yet they look very organized; almost like orbits.

Did you notice that largest circle of sonar targets has some letters on it? K L M N O

Have you seen these elsewhere?

The sonar technician sheet and the periodic table seem to be connected to each other. They both have the K L M N O markings on them. Perhaps the rings on the sonar sheet are connected to the orbital shells around a chemical element.

The periodic table also says that Sum of Electrons Per Shell = Atomic Number.

Did you notice that K L M N O are the names of orbital shells? Where have you seen those letters before?

Counting the number of dots (representing electrons) for each group on the sonar sheet will give you the atomic number for that particular element.

Atomic number of Silicon (Si) is 14 (sum of K L M orbitals with values 2 8 4)

Once you know the atomic number, you can figure out which element you are looking for. As an example, atomic number 14 is Silicon (Si).

Atomic Number Calculations for Each Element
(Click/tap to enlarge)

You should be able to calculate the atomic number, and find all the elements for each diagram as shown above. But this makes no sense. What could it refer to? Is there anything else on the sheets that you haven’t used yet?

There are some equations without a result on the backside of the periodic table. A lot of colourful L, M and Ns.

You know what the K, L, M, N, O are. But could the colors also matter?

The colors for the K, L, M, N, O are written in the same colors as of the elements you just found!

  • Green like Nitrogen (N)
  • Orange like Silicon (Si)
  • Brown like Potassium (K)
  • Blue like Vanadium (V)

See if you can use this to figure out how to fill in those equations.

Replace the K, L, M, N, O in the equations with the corresponding K, L, M, N, O values for the element of that color.

Each of the equations can be solved as shown below.

But what can you do with those numbers?

Blue is Vanadium; M = 11
Orange is Silicon; L = 8

M + L = 19

Green is Nitrogen; L = 5
Blue is Vanadium; N = 2

L – N = 3

Blue is Vanadium; L = 8
Green is Nitrogen; L = 5
Brown is Potassium; N = 1
Orange is Silicon; M = 4

L + L + N + M = 18

Brown is Potassium; N = 1

N = 1

Brown is Potassium; L = 8
Brown is Potassium; M = 8
Blue is Vanadium; M = 11
Orange is Silicon; M = 4

L + M + M – M = 23

Orange is Silicon; L = 8
Green is Nitrogen; L = 5
Brown is Potassium; N = 1

L + L + N = 14

Green is Nitrogen; L = 5
Green is Nitrogen; L = 5

L x L = 25

By now you should have connected the sonar sheet and the periodic tables together (Hints 1-4).

From the sonar sheet, by counting the number of dots in each orbit diagram you should know the elements you are looking for (Hints 5-8).

Then using the colors of the letters in the equations, and the number of electrons per orbital, you should have obtained the numbers (Hints 9-12):

19, 3, 18, 1, 23, 14, 25

The back side of the periodic table also says 1=Alfa… and this should help you convert these numbers to letters (Hint 13).

The characteristic, as such, is: scrawny

Hints for Rolph Laren

Rolph Laren

You’ve already found the album page from Rolph. But look closely at it again. Maybe it hides more than one secret.

The text on the page says The Matrix was such a good movie. So many great insights.

Have you tried reading the letters in the matrices, as though you were reading sentences? Left to right, top to bottom?

Click Here to Reveal Message Hidden in Matrices
THE CLOCK IS LIKE A FLAG UNSCRAMBLE TO SEE WHAT WE FOUND

The message said clock is like a flag. Did you see anything about flags anywhere?

How the Semaphore Flags are used.

The way the flags are used looks a lot like times.

Converting the times to semaphore flag letters gives you:

  • 08:53 –> O
  • 01:30 –> E
  • 09:15 –> R
  • 07:23 –> N
  • 06:53 –> I
  • 04:45 –> S

Was there any information left that could help you find the order?

The message from the matrices said unscramble to see what we found.

Have you tried to unscramble the letters?

If you unscramble the letters you will get the characteristic: senior

Hints for Mauro Russo

Mauro Russo

Have you found any items that belong to Mauro? Check the items found in the control room.

The Daily Routine sheet carries Mauro’s name. Have you read this yet?

It looks like he is talking about visiting several places on the ship. Is there anything that you could find in those places?

He talks about specific places on the submarine. You even have a “map” of the submarine; the electricals sheet. Perhaps that will show you something?

He mentions that he knows the letters of every room like the back of his hand. Many rooms on the submarine’s layout seem to have letters.

Each room that Mauro mentions in his routine has a letter associated. This gives you:

  • Officers’ Quarters (top deck, i.e. upper decks) = B
  • Observation deck (top deck, i.e. upper deck) = U
  • Nuclear lab (all the way down, i.e. lower decks) = L
  • Officers’ Mess (all the way back up, i.e. upper decks) = K
  • Observation deck (the deck I haven’t spent time on, i.e. middle decks) = Y

The answer is: bulky

Hints for Ariadna Amador

Ariadna Amador

Have you found any items that belong to Ariadna? There must be something in the items you found so far.

There is a doodle with the Elephant on it, and it has Ariadna’s name on it! How interesting though that doodle is drawn on such a thin paper? One can almost see through it!

What a funny doodle. Who draws a frying pan when they are bored?

Take a look at the poster, and check the name of the ship. It’s the Frying Pan!

Coincidence? Maybe not.

How can this doodle be connected to that poster? I mean, besides the perfect match in size…

I wonder what happens if you overlay the thin sheet doodle on the poster, and hold it to the light.

If you lay the doodle page on top of the poster, the doodle frying pan matches with the shape of the ship called Frying Pan. The mirror in the drawing also lines up with the sign post in the poster.

Is there anything else interesting that lines up?

It seems like the curls of the steam wisps in the drawing line up with some of the flags on the ship. Could these flags have any kind of a special meaning?

The Maritime Flag Code helped you convert the flags encircled by steam. You now have four letters.

There must be a hint on that doodle about how to arrange these letters.

I do wonder why Ariadna drew the steam wisps to all have different number of lines.

After you overlay the doodle on top of the poster, and hold them both up to the light, it becomes clear that four flags are encircled by the steam wisps.

Translating these from the Maritime Flag Code, found on the Sentinel FYI website, gives you the letters E M A L. But you need to find the order.

Notice how each steam wisp has a different number of lines? The number of lines of the steam drawing indicate the order in which the letters are supposed to be used.

So the solution is: male
