Hints – Chapter 1

You have what looks like the floor layout of a room, and eight objects with letters that can be placed in it.

There is a sheet with the lady’s recollections about what the room layout looked like.

Can you use those to place the items in the right spot?

Each item has two letters on it. Make sure to pay attention to what the lady says about objects’ positioning, so that the right letter goes towards the outside.

This is a logic task, you just need to figure out what item goes on to which square.

The shoe goes on square 8, with the shoes pointing towards the door, i.e. the letter O is on the outside of the room.

The table must be on the square 6 or 7, with the letter I outside since the lady says that it is visible from the door and the vase is towards the door.

The cat bed must be on 3 or 5, with the letter O outside since the cat likes to sleep near the window with its head towards the window.

The cat cannot be on 5, because then the armchair would be on 4 or 6. This would mean that there would be no space for a rug in front of the armchair since the armchair would point to the cat.

As such, the cat must be on 3, with letter O outside.

The sewing machine needs to be at the window as well. The only window left is 5, so the sewing machine has to be on 5 with letter O outside.

If the cat is on 3 and the sewing machine is on 5, then the armchair can only be on 2 (with N outside), with the rug going on 1 (with U outside since the yarn is close to the lady’s feet).

The cat hates the plant and so it goes in the farthest corner, which is 6, with X outside.

The middle of the room is clear, as such, the lamp must go on 4, with F outside.

After laying out the letters, read the letters starting at square 1, going clockwise.

The solution is: UNOFIXIO
